A history of supporting clients’ global growth

Since 2000, U.S. Bank has grown in size and reputation in Europe – from a small joint-payments processing venture into an end-to-end specialised financial services provider. Over the last 25 years, we’ve opened our Dublin headquarters, expanded into fund and trust services and introduced new tools that power commerce across industries and borders.

Our evolution in Europe

U.S. Bank is the fifth largest bank in the United States. Our roots trace back to 1863 when our predecessor bank first received its licence to operate across the United States. Since then, we’ve increased in size and financial strength through organic growth, mergers and strategic acquisitions. In June 2000, we extended our operations into Europe, and over the years, we’ve broadened our footprint and service offerings here to support clients effectively.

2000

euroConex, a joint venture between NOVA Corporation and the Bank of Ireland, is founded.

2001

U.S. Bancorp acquires NOVA Corporation.

2004

U.S. Bank acquires Bank of Ireland’s stake in euroConex, making it a wholly owned division of U.S. Bank and cementing Ireland as our operational base for European growth.

2006

Elavon Financial Services Limited obtains its banking licence on 8 December 2006, operating in Ireland as a licenced credit institution ever since.

2008

euroConex is rebranded as Elavon.

2010

U.S. Bank acquires the European securitisation, trust and agency business from Bank of America, marking the start of our Global Corporate Trust (GCT) business in Europe with teams based in London and Dublin.

2013

U.S. Bank acquires Irish hedge fund business Quintillion and establishes our Global Fund Services (GFS) business in Europe.

2018

Depositary business is established to service Irish companies.

2019

U.S. Bank opens flagship headquarters in Cherrywood, Dublin.

2020

U.S. Bank opens offices in Luxembourg to expand GFS offerings – providing fund administration, depositary, custody and domiciliation services for Luxembourg-domiciled funds.

2023 - 2025

U.S. Bank rolls out new tools including cloud-based POS systems, mobile payment devices and enterprise-grade integrations supporting omnichannel commerce across Irish retail, hospitality and healthcare sectors.

2025

U.S. Bank is ranked no. 10 (out of 1000) in FT Europe’s Best Employers of 2025 list.
